It's best to conduct pre- and post-inspections when operating sit-down forklifts
Your first experience with a sit-down forklift may be a bit daunting, but you'll quickly see it’s a precision-engineered tool designed to make heavy lifting feel effortless.
The Advantages of Sit-Down Forklifts
Why might you choose a sit-down forklift over the stand-up variety? Both options are viable in different settings, but sit-down forklifts could be best if you’re looking for an ergonomic design that allows operators to work comfortably for longer periods. The greater visibility, higher lift/lower speeds, and generally lower price of sit-down forklifts are other appealing benefits.
Preparing for the Drive
The relationship with your sit-down forklift starts before you even hit the gas. Follow these procedures to prepare you for the drive:
Once You’re on the Move
When you’re ready to hit the road—or the warehouse floor—begin by turning the key as you would in a car. When driving unloaded, keep the forks low, retracted, and tilted upward slightly. Your control handle acts as your steering mechanism—tilt it forward while pressing the pedal to advance, or pull it down and press the pedal to move backwards.
For high-rack loads, elevate the forks using the control handle, position the forklift accordingly, and extend the forks into the pallet. Once securely in place, carefully lift the load off the rack, retract the forks, and slowly back up. Follow these steps in reverse to deposit a load.
